Coping with Uncertainty
Uncertainty is not uncommon with conditions like MDS - feeling confused or uncertain about most of your decisions and daily outlook can feel overwhelming. Use these tips to cope with uncertainty:
- Be informed. Ask your medical team to support you with information about your condition and progress. Research any questions and discuss them together. It is important to ask questions and express your concerns.
- Focus on what you can control. While worry is a natural by-product of facing a condition like MDS, it takes a lot of energy and contributes to more stress and anxiety, which can further impact your fatigue levels. Instead, focusing about the present moment and the parts of your journey you can control can instill hope and better well-being.
- Find meaning. While hard, finding meaning can help ground yourself during this journey. This growth path invites you to explore workable goals, meaningful connections, and mindful awareness of your journey while using personal resources like gratitude to increase the quality of your life.
- Seek support. Expressing your feelings and connecting with others going through similar experiences can help remind you that you are not alone.
- Always remember that your condition does not define you. While it may feel that MDS is taking up all of your current life's focus and time, you are much bigger than your diagnosis.
- Continue to build your coping resources. Exploring new strategies that may help make things easier for you is important.
