Compassion Fatigue

Compassion fatigue refers to the set of negative psychological symptoms that a caregiver may experience as a result of prolonged stress and other factors while taking care of an ill individual.

While compassion fatigue shares symptoms with burnout, it is different. Compassion fatigue may have a rapid onset but quicker recovery period if prevented or recognized as early as possible.

As with burnout, it is important to be aware of the signs of compassion fatigue so that you can take preventative as well as therapeutic measures for the well-being of yourself and your loved one.

Do you experience compassion fatigue as a MDS caregiver? Which symptoms do you relate to?
