Scoring:
- The Subjective Happiness Scale is scored by adding the responses and dividing the total by 4 to get an average. Note that one item has a reverse-score. Scores range from 1.0 to 7.0 with higher scores reflecting greater happiness. Average scores range from 4.5 to 5.5. The average scores for college students is just below 5, while working adults and elderly participants have an average score of 5.6.
- The Satisfaction With Life Scale is scored by adding the scores of individual items. The scores can be used to make the following interpretations:
31-35: Extremely satisfied, 26-30: Satisfied, 21-25: Slightly satisfied, 20: Neutral, 15-19: Slightly dissatisfied, 10-14: Dissatisfied, 5-9: Extremely dissatisfied
