After a Difficult Chat

Regardless of how long you've been a listener, there can come a time where a chat upsets you in some way. Perhaps a topic hit too close to home, or was otherwise triggering in some way.

The chat could also have been something completely unrelated to your own life experiences, but whatever the member shared with you left you feeling worried or upset.

In these situations, it is really important for your own emotional health that you take time out to gather your thoughts and refill your own emotional energy tank. #selfcare

This could mean different things for different people. You might want to step away from the computer, take a walk, listen to music or do something to take your mind off things all together. Other people prefer to talk things through - we're all here because we know how helpful that can be! To this end, we have a wonderful group of Peer Supporters, which you can find here.

These are experienced listeners who understand how important it is to have someone to turn to after a tough chat and want to be there for you at that time. You can also spot them in the listener chat rooms with the Peer Support badge beside their names.

Peer Supporters are here to:

- Provide you with space to talk and offload after a difficult chat

Peer Supporters are NOT here to:

- Offer emotional support to listeners for personal issues. If you wish to discuss an issue which is not related to a difficult chat, please log in to your member account and connect 1-1 with a listener.

We are incredibly thankful to all of those who have worked for the Peer Support badge and who voluntarily dedicate their time and energy to supporting listeners.

If you're feeling inspired and would like to support fellow listeners in this way, you can find out more and apply here
