Achieving Work-Life Balance as an Educator
Work-life balance can be hard to maintain when educators are stressed and feel like they are not managing their workload efficiently. While balance may be subjective and so there is no fixed model to follow, here are some tips to help you:
- Make a priority list for both work and life dimensions - are there any non-essential tasks that you can stop doing?
- Establish boundaries. Think about how you can draw a line to separate your work and home time. You may need to bring work to do at home but how can you still keep it apart from your other life priorities?
- Self-Care. Make sure you are paying attention to your well-being, getting enough rest and breaks. Consider finding or practicing a hobby. While professional development may fall under self-care, make sure to engage in something lighthearted as well.
- Establish a support network. You deserve to share your experiences and be supported regarding your concerns and challenges. Connecting with colleagues can help you achieve supportive connections.
- Celebrate your journey. You have come so far and are trying your best. Celebrating each step alongside each achievement will help you stay motivated and confident.
