A Puffy Guides us in Managing Negative Emotions!

A puffy also offers us a discussion to help us manage our negative emotions!

Discussion Name: Managing Negative Emotions

Ice-breaker - Name as many positive emotions as you can! Go!

  1. There are many emotions that we all experience every day, which emotions have you experienced so far today? You may have been happy or sad or angry or jealous . . .
  2. An emotion is a chemical response that can cause our whole body to react in a certain way. First we have to recognise the emotion and how we react. How do you react when you are feeling a negative emotion?
  3. For some, one of the simple ways of calming down when we start to feel a negative emotion is to count to ten before we do anything at all. For example, anger only actually lasts about 4 seconds but once we start to react then it stimulates more hormones and the instinctive fight, flight or freeze response which lasts much longer. Have you ever experienced one of these responses and if so when? Feel free to share your experience.
  4. Looking back to a time when you felt a negative emotion, Would you react differently? What would you change?
  5. Share with us any tips you have on better managing negative emotions.

Stability and peace of mind are not contingent upon any external environment but upon our response to life.
