The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Vinton, VA, through the Allegheny Mountain Institute, is dedicated to cultivating future leaders in sustainable agriculture and food equity. Our program empowers participants to champion a food system that is socially, environmentally, and economically just. Through immersive training at our Allegheny Farm Campus, Fellows gain hands-on experience in organic food system education, while actively engaging with the community to grow and distribute diverse crops, run educational sessions on healthcare innovations, and maintain gardens that nourish local schools. We focus on enhancing food literacy and supporting initiatives like farmers markets, direct-to-consumer sales, and community food coalitions. Our commitment to accessibility means that we do not charge tuition, ensuring that anyone passionate about food justice can embark on this transformative journey. Selected Fellows will spend six months in a residential setting, followed by a year of community action, applying their skills with regional non-profits to create lasting change. Applications are accepted until March for each year's program, which runs from May through October.
