The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Powhatan, VA, is dedicated to cultivating the next generation of advocates for a just food system through immersive education and hands-on training. Sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, this program empowers Fellows to engage in social, environmental, and economic justice within food systems by providing comprehensive organic food system education at the Allegheny Farm. Our commitment to accessibility means there are no tuition fees for participants. Over six months, selected Fellows undergo experiential learning followed by a Community Action Year, during which they apply their skills to support regional non-profits. Activities include growing and distributing diverse crops, implementing health-focused educational sessions, maintaining community gardens, and enhancing food literacy in schools. By fostering connections with local food initiatives, we strive to make healthy food more accessible and encourage mentorship among Fellows, ensuring a sustainable impact on our communities.
