The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship, located in Locust Grove, VA, is dedicated to training and empowering individuals who are passionate about creating a just food system that supports social, environmental, and economic sustainability. Sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, this fellowship offers a comprehensive six-month experiential program at the Allegheny Farm Campus, where selected fellows receive organic food system education and practical experience. With no tuition fees to ensure accessibility, fellows learn to grow and distribute diverse crops on a market-style farm, implement innovative health care educational sessions, maintain community gardens, and integrate food and ecological literacy into educational activities. They also get involved in supporting local farmers markets, enhancing access to healthy foods, and mentoring future fellows. The fellowship culminates in a Community Action Year, where participants apply their training in collaboration with regional non-profit organizations, making a lasting impact in their communities.
