Farm & Food Systems Fellowship

Allegheny Mountain Institute (AMI)
Smithfield, UT US
The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Smithfield, UT, is dedicated to cultivating leaders who advocate for a food system that prioritizes social, environmental, and economic justice. Through comprehensive training at the Allegheny Farm in Highland County, VA, this program empowers selected Fellows to engage in hands-on learning about organic food systems without any tuition fees, ensuring accessibility for all. Over six months, Fellows will explore innovative practices such as growing and distributing diverse crops, leading educational sessions focused on health care, managing school or community gardens, and integrating ecological literacy into educational curricula. They will actively support local farmers markets and develop distribution channels to enhance access to healthy foods, while also collaborating with community food coalitions. After their immersive experience, Fellows will enter a Community Action Year, partnering with regional non-profit organizations to apply their knowledge and inspire future leaders in sustainable food practices. Applications are accepted until March, with the fellowship running from May to October each year.
