The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Johnstown, PA, empowers individuals to become advocates for a just food system through hands-on education and community engagement. Sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, this immersive program provides participants with the tools they need to promote social, environmental, and economic justice in food systems. Our Fellows gain invaluable experience by working on a market-style farm and leading initiatives that include growing and distributing diverse crops, implementing innovative health care educational sessions, and maintaining school and community gardens. Our mission emphasizes access to healthy foods, food literacy, and support for local farmers markets. Over six months, selected Fellows engage in experiential learning at AMI’s Allegheny Farm Campus and continue their impact during a Community Action Year by collaborating with regional non-profit organizations. We are committed to accessibility and do not charge tuition, making our program open to all who seek to make a difference in their communities. Applications are accepted until March of each year, with experiences running from May to October.
