Lavinia Barbu

Lavinia Barbu is a dedicated licensed clinical social worker who prioritizes a client-centered approach. She focuses on the unique needs and goals of each individual with kindness and professionalism. Working primarily with adults aged 25 to 65, Lavinia supports those experiencing stress, overwhelm, anxiety, and major life transitions. She empowers her clients to recognize that life can be understood, managed, and made meaningful. Through the cultivation of coping skills and inner resources such as forgiveness, compassion, and connection, she helps clients find purpose and resilience. Lavinia is skilled in a variety of therapeutic modalities, including mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), EMDR, and solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT). She creates a supportive and positive environment, fostering strong therapeutic alliances and taking a holistic approach to modify client thinking. When she is not working, Lavinia enjoys hiking, embarking on spiritual pilgrimages, practicing yoga, listening to audiobooks, and exploring nature. Her time in graduate school was marked by an appreciation for the show Frasier, and she finds fulfillment in her role at SohoMD, where teamwork and collaboration inspire her to excel in her profession.
