General Assistance (WorkFirst NJ) serves the Atlantic City, NJ community by providing essential Emergency Assistance (EA) to individuals and families in need. Our program offers crucial support including emergency food assistance, clothing, temporary shelter, and household essentials. We also help with temporary rental aid, back rent or mortgage payments, and utility costs to ensure basic needs are met. Additionally, we facilitate transportation for housing searches and cover moving expenses. While Emergency Assistance is typically available for up to 12 months, we recognize that hardships can extend beyond this period and offer possible extensions for those facing significant challenges. For individuals who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own after at least 20 weeks of stable employment, we guide them toward state unemployment benefits and welfare support as needed.
