Located in Thomasville, NC, the Farm & Food Systems Fellowship, sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, is dedicated to training and empowering individuals to champion a just food system that prioritizes social, environmental, and economic equity. This unique program offers aspiring fellows the opportunity to engage in organic food system education without any tuition costs, ensuring accessibility for all committed participants. Through hands-on experience at the Allegheny Farm in Highland County, VA, fellows cultivate diversified crops, contribute to community gardens, and facilitate educational initiatives that enhance food and ecological literacy in schools. Moreover, they actively support farmers markets and develop robust distribution channels to improve access to healthy foods. Selected fellows embark on a transformative six-month residency followed by a Community Action Year, where they apply their skills in collaboration with local non-profit organizations. Applications are accepted until March each year, with the fellowship experience taking place from May to October.
