The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Shelby, NC, aims to cultivate a new generation of passionate advocates and educators committed to fostering a just food system that prioritizes social, environmental, and economic sustainability. Through this unique program, selected Fellows receive comprehensive training at Allegheny Farm, learning the principles of organic agriculture and community-oriented food systems without any tuition fees, ensuring that access is available to all. The Fellowship includes hands-on experiences in growing diverse crops, hosting educational initiatives related to health care, maintaining community gardens, and integrating food literacy into educational programs. Fellows will also play a pivotal role in supporting farmers markets, enhancing access to healthy food, and mentoring future cohorts. This immersive experience spans six months of residential study, followed by a Community Action Year where Fellows apply their skills in collaboration with regional non-profits, making a significant impact in their local communities. Applications are accepted until March each year, with the Fellowship program typically running from May to October.
