The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Newton, NC, nurtures a new generation of leaders committed to creating a food system that prioritizes social, environmental, and economic justice. Sponsored and trained by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, this transformative program provides Fellows with a unique opportunity to engage in organic food system education without the barrier of tuition, ensuring accessibility for all. Throughout their six-month experiential residency at the Allegheny Farm Campus, participants learn to cultivate and distribute diverse crops while implementing educational initiatives aimed at enhancing community health. Fellows also play a vital role in maintaining school and community gardens, promoting food and ecological literacy, and supporting local farmers' markets and direct-to-consumer programs. Following their residency, each Fellow embarks on a Community Action Year, collaborating with regional non-profits to apply their skills and insights in meaningful ways. Applications for this impactful fellowship are due by March each year, with the experience running from May to October.
