Farm & Food Systems Fellowship

Allegheny Mountain Institute (AMI)
New Bern, NC US
The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship, located in New Bern, NC, is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of leaders in sustainable agriculture and food justice. Our program empowers selected Fellows through hands-on, experiential training at the Allegheny Farm in Highland County, VA, where they gain invaluable knowledge in organic farming and community food systems. Through our fellowship, which is tuition-free to enhance accessibility, participants engage in transformative projects that promote socially, environmentally, and economically just food systems. Throughout their six-month stay, Fellows will learn to grow and distribute diverse crops, lead educational sessions in innovative healthcare, maintain community gardens, and enhance food literacy in local schools. Additionally, they will play vital roles in supporting farmers' markets and developing distribution channels to increase access to healthy food within the community. Upon completion of the fellowship, they commit to a Community Action Year, applying their skills in partnership with local non-profits, driving meaningful change in food access and education. Applications are accepted until March each year, with the fellowship running from May to October.
