Based in Mount Airy, NC, the Farm & Food Systems Fellowship, sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, is dedicated to empowering individuals to become advocates for a just food system. Through comprehensive training and hands-on experience at the Allegheny Farm Campus, selected Fellows engage in a six-month program focused on organic food system education that champions social, environmental, and economic health. This fellowship promotes accessibility by waiving tuition fees and supports community initiatives, including the growth and distribution of diverse crops, educational health sessions, school and community garden projects, and the integration of food and ecological literacy into educational settings. Fellows also have the opportunity to bolster local farmers markets and develop strategies for increasing community access to nutritious food. Following their training, participants embark on a Community Action Year, collaborating with regional non-profit organizations to implement their knowledge and support community food coalitions. Applications are accepted until March each year, with the fellowship experience typically running from May to October.
