Located in Lincolnton, NC, the Farm & Food Systems Fellowship, hosted by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, is dedicated to training and empowering future advocates for a fair and sustainable food system. Through a tuition-free program, selected Fellows engage in hands-on experiences at the Allegheny Farm in Highland County, VA, where they learn about organic agriculture and social equity in the food system. This Fellowship offers a rich curriculum that includes growing and distributing diverse crops, implementing health education initiatives, and enhancing school and community gardens. Fellows will also teach food and ecological literacy, support farmers' markets, and foster community partnerships to improve access to healthy foods. After six months of intensive farm study, participants embark on a Community Action Year, collaborating with local non-profits to apply their skills and knowledge in real-world settings. Applications are accepted until March each year, with the experiential program running from May to October.
