The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Belmont, NC, empowers individuals to become advocates and educators in the journey toward a just food system that prioritizes social, environmental, and economic fairness. Sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, this unique program offers no tuition fees to ensure accessibility for all applicants. Participants engage in comprehensive organic food system education and gain hands-on experience at the Allegheny Farm in Highland County, VA. Throughout their six-month residency, fellows will cultivate diversified crops, lead educational initiatives, maintain school and community gardens, and enhance food literacy in educational settings. They will also support local farmers' markets, develop distribution channels for healthy food access, and partake in collaborative community food coalition efforts. Following this immersive training, fellows enter a Community Action Year, applying their skills with regional non-profits to create lasting impacts. Applications are welcomed until March each year, with the fellowship experience running from May to October.
