The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Albemarle, NC, is dedicated to nurturing a new generation of advocates and educators committed to achieving a food system that is socially, environmentally, and economically just. Sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, this transformative program offers a six-month residential experience at the Allegheny Farm Campus in Highland County, VA, where selected Fellows engage in practical, hands-on training without any tuition fees to ensure accessibility. During their time, Fellows receive comprehensive organic food system education and can work with community partners to manage market-style farms, implement health care educational sessions, maintain school and community gardens, and promote food literacy initiatives. Following their fellowship, participants enter a Community Action Year, applying their skills in collaboration with regional non-profits to enhance access to healthy foods and support local food initiatives. Interested individuals are encouraged to complete their application by March each year, with the fellowship experience taking place from May to October.
