At the Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Portage, MI, we are dedicated to cultivating the next generation of food advocates and educators committed to building a food system that prioritizes social, environmental, and economic justice. Through a tuition-free program, we empower Fellows with comprehensive organic food system education and practical experience at our Allegheny Farm Campus in Highland County, VA. Our Fellows engage in diverse initiatives, such as growing and distributing crops, implementing health-related educational sessions, maintaining community gardens, and promoting food literacy in schools. They also play a vital role in supporting farmers markets and expanding access to healthy food through innovative distribution strategies. This six-month immersive experience is followed by a Community Action Year, where Fellows apply their knowledge alongside regional non-profits to drive meaningful change. Applications are accepted until March, with the program running from May to October each year.
