With a focus on social, environmental, and economic equity, the fellowship provides comprehensive training and hands-on experience without tuition barriers, ensuring inclusivity for all aspiring Fellows. Participants engage in organic food system education, where they learn to cultivate and market diverse crops, implement health-focused educational initiatives, maintain community gardens, and integrate food and ecological literacy into local schools. The program also emphasizes support for farmers markets and direct food access efforts, all while fostering collaborative partnerships with regional non-profits. Over six months at AMI's Allegheny Farm Campus, selected fellows immerse themselves in experiential learning, followed by a Community Action Year where they apply their knowledge to drive meaningful change in their communities. Applications are welcome until March each year, with the fellowship period ranging from May to October.
