Farm & Food Systems Fellowship

Allegheny Mountain Institute (AMI)
South Portland, ME US
At the Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in South Portland, ME, we are dedicated to fostering a food system that is just, sustainable, and healthy for all. Our program, offered by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, empowers and trains passionate individuals to become advocates and educators in sustainable agriculture. By providing comprehensive organic food system education, we ensure that tuition is not a barrier—promoting accessibility for all aspiring Fellows. Over the course of six months at the Allegheny Farm Campus in Highland County, VA, selected Fellows engage in hands-on experience on a market-style farm, facilitate innovative community health educational sessions, and support school and community gardening initiatives. They also play a crucial role in activities that enhance food and ecological literacy among youth, develop distribution channels for improved access to nutritious foods, and contribute to local farmers markets. Following this immersive training, our Fellows enter a Community Action Year, where they apply their knowledge through partnerships with regional non-profit organizations, helping to catalyze positive change in their communities. Applications are accepted until March each year, with experiences typically running from May to October.
