The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Rumford, ME, is dedicated to cultivating a new generation of advocates for a just and sustainable food system. Sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, this fellowship empowers individuals with invaluable organic food system education, fostering skills that enable them to teach, lead, and innovate within their communities. Our program is designed to be accessible, as we do not charge tuition, ensuring that all aspiring Fellows can participate. Over the course of six months at our Allegheny Farm Campus, selected individuals engage in hands-on learning, participating in activities such as growing and distributing diversified crops, maintaining school and community gardens, and supporting farmers markets. After this immersive experience, Fellows enter a Community Action Year, collaborating with local non-profits to apply their training and promote food equity, health initiatives, and ecological literacy throughout the region. Applications are accepted until March each year, with the fellowship running from May to October.
