The Oxford County Food as Medicine Program in Fryeburg, ME, is dedicated to supporting individuals facing challenges in accessing nutritious food and those at risk for or diagnosed with pre-diabetes. Our program partners with the National Diabetes Prevention Program to offer fresh, frozen, and shelf-stable food along with essential lifestyle coaching, free of charge, to eligible participants. Through interactive cooking skills training via the Cooking Matters Program, weekly distributions of healthy food, and engaging recipes, we empower our community to make informed dietary choices. Additionally, our program fosters physical activity and the development of supportive peer relationships. Classes occur weekly for the first four months and bi-weekly thereafter, creating a sustained environment for participants to thrive together.
