Dr. Yun Garrison understands that no one chooses to suffer. When life forces individuals to retreat from their true selves, they often experience pain. As a dedicated counselor, she is committed to helping clients reconnect with their authentic selves and achieve their life goals. Dr. Garrison’s therapeutic practice revolves around the stories, strengths, and resilience of her clients and their communities. As a Korean immigrant and the able-bodied sister of a brother with a disability, she embodies the belief that transformative change begins when stories are shared and genuinely heard. Clients may come ready to discuss their challenges or may approach with hesitance, but Dr. Garrison is honored to provide a safe space for those stories to unfold. She creates an adaptable environment where science, narratives, and artistic expression converge to cater to individual needs. Her therapeutic approach is rooted in Psychodynamic and Relational Cultural Therapy, which she seamlessly integrates with Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) as appropriate. Dr. Garrison aims to spark discussions about how various environments can either enhance or inhibit one’s ability to live with dignity and respect. She specializes in working with adults facing an array of life challenges and the effects of marginalization. With a keen interest in the experiences of people of color, immigrants, refugees, international students, and members of the LGBTQ+ community in Maine, Dr. Garrison also leads a Women of Color support group on Wednesday evenings.
