Located in Brunswick, ME, the Farm & Food Systems Fellowship is dedicated to training and empowering passionate individuals to become advocates for a just, sustainable food system. This program, offered by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, provides a tuition-free opportunity for Fellows to immerse themselves in organic food system education while engaging in hands-on experiences at the Allegheny Farm in Highland County, VA. Over six months, selected Fellows will gain invaluable skills working on a market-style farm, developing and distributing diversified crops, implementing educational health initiatives, maintaining community gardens, and enhancing food and ecological literacy in schools. After their intensive training, Fellows enter a Community Action Year, collaborating with regional non-profit organizations to promote food assistance and increase access to healthy food options. With a focus on community engagement and social equity, the Fellowship aims to equip future leaders with the tools they need to make lasting impacts in their communities. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply by March for an enriching experience that typically spans from May to October.
