The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Sykesville, MD, is dedicated to empowering individuals to serve as advocates and educators for a just food system that prioritizes social, environmental, and economic sustainability. Sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, this no-cost program allows Fellows to engage in comprehensive organic food system education at the Allegheny Farm in Highland County, VA. Throughout the six-month immersive experience, participants cultivate diverse crops on a market-style farm, run educational initiatives in innovative healthcare, maintain school and community gardens, promote food and ecological literacy, and support local farmer's markets and direct-to-consumer programs. After their fellowship, Fellows embark on a Community Action Year, collaborating with regional non-profits to apply their learning and further enhance access to healthy food in their communities. Applications are accepted until March, with the program running from May to October.
