Valerie Gordon Slattery

Dr. Valerie Gordon Slattery is committed to transforming the lives of children and teens facing academic, behavioral, social, or emotional challenges. She views each child or teen as a unique puzzle, recognizing that sometimes the pieces fit together seamlessly, while other times, finding the right piece requires profound effort and tailored strategies. Utilizing an eclectic array of techniques, including play therapy, sand therapy, and cognitive-behavioral therapy, she believes in addressing the holistic needs of a child within their broader environment, which includes parents, siblings, and schools.

Dr. Slattery specializes in guiding children through various challenges, including anxiety, depression, trauma, selective mutism, and low self-esteem, as well as Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder. Beyond therapy, she conducts comprehensive psychoeducational and neuropsychological evaluations for children aged three through young adults. Her testing services cover areas such as cognitive assessment, achievement testing, processing abilities, attention, memory, language, and executive functioning. Additionally, she administers Admissions tests for Washington area Independent Schools.

Holding two doctoral degrees—one in Special Education/Learning Disabilities and the other in Clinical Psychology/Child and Adolescent—Dr. Slattery also completed a postdoctoral program in neuropsychology and possesses advanced training in therapies for children with sexual behavior problems. Her approach emphasizes the essential roles of family systems and collaborative support, ensuring every child receives the compassionate and comprehensive care they deserve.
