Farm & Food Systems Fellowship

The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship, located in Chestertown, MD, is dedicated to empowering individuals to become influential advocates for a just food system that prioritizes social equity, environmental sustainability, and economic viability. Sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, this Fellowship offers a unique no-cost training experience aimed at promoting accessibility and fostering a deep understanding of organic food systems. Over a transformative six-month residency at AMI’s Allegheny Farm in Highland County, VA, selected Fellows will engage in hands-on learning about diversified crop production, health-focused education, and community gardening. After their immersive training, they will embark on a Community Action Year, collaborating with local non-profit organizations to implement initiatives like farmers markets, educational workshops, and food distribution channels that enhance access to healthy foods. The Fellowship encourages passionate individuals to apply by March of the application year and prepares them to lead impactful community food initiatives from May to October, ensuring the development of skilled leaders ready to make a lasting difference in their communities.
