Farm & Food Systems Fellowship

The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Bel Air, MD, is dedicated to cultivating a new generation of advocates and educators committed to building a food system that is just, sustainable, and accessible for all. Sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, this fellowship offers a tuition-free opportunity for selected participants to engage in hands-on education at the picturesque Allegheny Farm in Highland County, VA. Over six months, Fellows immerse themselves in organic food system practices, working on initiatives such as crop diversification, community gardens, and health education programs. They also play a vital role in supporting local farmers markets and enhancing food access through innovative distribution channels. Following their time at the farm, Fellows enter a Community Action Year, collaborating with regional non-profits to apply their learning and drive positive change. The Fellowship is designed to be practical and impactful, fostering a strong sense of community and collaboration while addressing urgent food needs. Applications for this transformative experience are open until March each year, with the program running from May to October.
