The Farm & Food Systems Fellowship in Abingdon, MD, empowers aspiring advocates and educators to create a food system that is socially, environmentally, and economically just. Sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Institute, this hands-on program offers a unique opportunity for selected Fellows to participate in a six-month immersive experience at the picturesque Allegheny Farm. Through organic food system education, Fellows cultivate diversified crops, engage in innovative health care education, and support community initiatives such as farmers markets and school gardens. The Fellowship promotes accessibility by waiving tuition, ensuring that passionate individuals can learn and implement strategies that enhance food and ecological literacy in their communities. After the initial fellowship, participants embark on a Community Action Year, partnering with regional non-profits to apply their knowledge and make a real impact within the region. Applications are welcomed until March for experiences running from May to October, fulfilling our commitment to fostering the next generation of food system advocates.
