The YMCA's Diabetes Prevention Program in Milton, MA, is dedicated to combating the growing concerns of prediabetes through a compassionate, results-driven approach. In partnership with the Hockomock Area YMCA and the YMCA of Central Massachusetts, this program guides individuals on a transformative journey to improve their health and reduce their risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Studies show that engaging in this program can lower the onset of diabetes by 58%, and by 71% for individuals over 60. With a trained lifestyle coach, participants will navigate a supportive small group environment focused on healthy eating, physical activity, and practical behavior changes. Over the course of a year, participants will attend 16 weekly sessions, then transition to bi-weekly and monthly follow-ups, all aimed at achieving a weight loss goal of 7% and increasing physical activity to at least 150 minutes per week. Together, participants not only gain valuable knowledge but also foster friendships and motivation, ensuring that no one faces this journey alone. The YMCA's Diabetes Prevention Program is an inclusive initiative designed for those 18 or older, who are overweight and have been diagnosed with prediabetes or are at risk. Everyone is welcome to join and gain the tools needed to enhance their wellness and boost vitality in a caring environment.
