Based in Ellsworth, KS, the Farm & Food Systems Fellowship is dedicated to nurturing a new generation of advocates for a just and sustainable food system. This program empowers selected Fellows through a comprehensive, hands-on education in organic food systems, ensuring accessibility by waiving tuition fees. During their six-month immersive experience at the Allegheny Farm, Fellows engage in vital activities including growing and distributing diverse crops, running educational sessions on health care innovation, maintaining community gardens, and integrating food and ecological literacy into local schools. They also support farmers markets and direct-to-consumer initiatives, develop channels to enhance access to healthy foods, and actively participate in community food coalitions. Following their initial training, Fellows embark on a Community Action Year, partnering with regional non-profits to apply their skills and make a tangible difference. Applications are accepted through March each year, with the Fellowship experience typically running from May to October.
