@Heather225

A warm welcome to all the newbies! I am Leyley and I have used seven cups already when I was struggling with depression as a teenager. Now as a young adult I have rediscovered it and it has been a source of strength and gives me a feeling of community. The platform motivates me to keep going and continue my journey of self-growth and healing. :)

@Heather225Hi I just joined today, can I just rant about anything here (mostly feelings) and no one can call me out for talking about it?

@patientBlueberries8902 welcome to 7 Cups.

This thread is mainly to introduce people to 7 Cups. What do you mean by rant? What is the topic you want to talk about?

If you want to post on a topic then you could post in a community related to the topic you want to speak about. Any post needs to stay within community guidelines.

Browsing for a listener might be a better alternative but keep in mind that people are often here to get better and cope with their challenges, so if everyone just vents and does not put some boundaries on what they say a listener may just not be able to hear that for long.

What I ask in a 1-1 with a listener is for the listener to empathize but not expecting them to hear an hour of me saying angry things or triggering things.

Maybe if you just go easy you will ease into the topic.

Nice to meet you.

@soulsings

Rants is basically me venting too much. I got called out a lot of times for venting for too long... people called it rants

@patientBlueberries8902 I hear yoiu. I come from a family of complainers. It is difficult for me to hear if it goes on a long time.

What I like is when someone can identify the problem and how they feel about it. I try to guide people away from anger because anger gives us a false sense of power but what it really does in my experience is tear down any good feelings we have. To me anger extends the suffering.

Don't get me wrong, I am not condoning people who treat you wrong, but what does getting mad at them and repeating over and over the harm they did to you do to bring you happiness? For me it only extends the suffering.

I am very involved with many projects or I would try to show you in a 1-1, but you can try and find other listeners. https://www.7cups.com/BrowseListeners/

My advice is to treat them like a sensitive person that you want to listen but not have them get too much of ranting and more exploring of where can I go from here.

How does that sound?

@soulsings

it didn't occur to me until you said it that anger gives a false sense of power. this is incredible wisdom, Soul.

@Heather225 thanks for your kind words. The physical component of that is it sends out a massive amount of adrenaline and other fight or flight hormones. The mental portion is having an inflated sense of how much power and control one has.
