Keeping Previous Chats

purpleDrum2708 September 24th, 2017

I would love to be able to keep the entire chat that I have had with listeners, instead of having it cut short. The number of times the listener said something that was very important and I wanted to go back and find it, only to find that it is lost forever and all I have are the last one or two sentences! This is a constant source of frustration and I always seem to be losing things said in the chats that I had meant to hold onto because they are automatically deleted. If I can keep part of the chat, why can't I keep all of it, to refer to later? Especially when the listener has said something important and comforting.

Hello there!!

Thanks for sharing yes

Well, for privacy the system does not save all the test of the conversation, that is most to assure that every member's chats are totally anonymous and confidential.

So when someone tells you something remarkable maybe you could point attention to it and write down your own reflections to what it has been said and in what way it helped you.

So you can have your own diary, like a list of good quotes that you can read from time to time.

Could that help?

Take care laugh

@BeyondTheInvisible, yes of course I have already thought of that and I do exactly that when I can, but you have to remember that it ruins the flow of the chat if I constantly have to stop chatting to copy and paste or write things down, there are times when the computer will crash and I have either forgotten to copy and paste before the site deletes most of the chat (mid conversation), so this isn't really a good workable solution. I wonder if there is a way to solve the problem and what could achieve this and improve the experience that doesn't cause frustration for members? For example, you could allow both parties to decide together whether to keep the chat for a few days so the member can go back and re read things that helped them. You could leave the decision up to the parties rather than making that decision to delete on their behalf. Otherwise, perhaps instead of deleting mid chat, you could delete it after a long enough time to allow the members to write these things down, which you agree is a way to keep the chat, say, 24 hours or 3 days would be better than deleting half way through the chat. I've been experiencing this issue with the removal of chats for a long time and I notice I have a few thumbs up as well, and the fact that I have decided to write into you about it, means there are others who have the same problem but aren't yet raising it with you.

@purpleDrum2708 - thanks for sharing what frustrates you about how chat messages are retained. As you may have seen on another thread, we now have the ability to preserve chat messages more easily for longer and have been polling the community to find out what would work best. It won't be based on a number of messages anymore but rather on a matter of time since the message was sent, fwiw.
