Hi

oliveSky4408 August 27th

Hi everyone, am new to 7 cups and I am loving the place. I am a self-taught software developer who has found it quite challenging to get work which has had me questioning my decisions. Any advice or help given will be highly appreciated.

@oliveSky4408 , I saw this message of yours and I found myself a bit saddened over the fact that although people were presenting themselves to you, they were not trying to help you with your posted issue at all. Now, here we have a bit of a saying - "we can't give advice, because you're the only expert on yourself" - but I can gladly give you something to think about.

You should not take the fact it is "challenging to get work" as a rejecting of yourself or your skills. You should not question your decisions, because in this world only you are yourself, and so your decisions were, I believe, taken on a very specific context and point in time. Instead, you can think of all this as a competition of sorts - just because a company has a single open position, and you perhaps fell #2 in that race, does not detract from your own achievements. Instead, as if you were racing in the Olympics, it can be seen as an invitation for an additional improvement of your skills, to increase your competitive advantages.

Back in the day, a proverb used to say "even Homer sneezes sometimes", meaning, even the supposed author of the Iliad and the Odyssey was imperfect sometimes. We are, and you are, too. Neither of us is perfect. Instead, the challenge at hand can lead you to explore yourself better, and finding new paths in life, be it learning another programming language, becoming a writer, starting meditation, or any other thing this world has to offer. How about that? 😀
