What are your experiences of therapy on 7 Cups?

romanticthi3f September 6th, 2018

Hi everyone -

Just curious what peoples experiences are of therapy in 7 Cups? There are so many therapists it's a bit overwhelming!

I'm curious about what happens with your therapist; do you guys set goals? Do you get homework? How often do you chat?

If you'd like to share I'd be super grateful smiley

Hi! Well, I've had a handful of listeners that I absolutely love and trust, wanting to talk to them anytime I feel the need. Never hesitating to ask them a question or talk. I love listeners that really connect with the member by asking more questions about their situation and seeing it in a more positive light. I definitely tell them what goals I want to achieve.

Now, honestly, I haven't had a listener that is available to talk to me every day. The listeners I trust live in a different time zone, or are too busy with school or work. Therefore, I cant feel accountable when working on my goals since I don't get "homework". My progress is so-so; I feel the same terrible way quite often as I relapse just from everyday triggers. I think some daily goals or homework would be so so great! I just feel myself waste away my time, as I feel too scared to connect with another listener, who I feel will either be too distanced, or too stalker-ish.

Can't afford a therapist. Too lazy and scared at the moment. Maybe next time.

Hi!

Thanks for your reply!

I'm really glad that you found some listeners that are a good fit - that can be so hard sometimes.

You mentioned how you don't have one to talk to everyday or don't have homework - is this something you talked about with your listeners? Maybe you could set some homework when you're talking with your listener and then message them keeping you accountable (but knowing they won't reply everyday)? There's also lots of daily check in threads that I've seen along the forums, maybe that might be helpful too.

I can't even answer the majority of your questions because I didn't have the majority of my therapists long enough for various reasons - One financial, one didn't work out, and one ended up being in a different state, so she couldn't help me. That was a disappointment.

Honestly, I was underwhelmed. One of the biggest problems is the expense for what you get. I feel like I didn't get my money's worth. Typically, the therapist would respond once or twice a day at the most. I couldn't get live chats with any of the ones I had. You can talk to listeners unlimited here, not the therapist. Doesn't make sense to me. Now don't get me wrong, I don't expect a regular 30-60 min session or anything like that (chat), but the discussions should be way more generous than one response to your posts. Needless to say, I'm done with online therapy.

Hello there!

It sounds like you were disappointed with your therapy services sadly! So with online therapy services we encourage clients' to reach out unlimited and then your therapist will respond 1-2 times per day and in depth too so it should be like a letter rather than short messages. I just wanted to let you know that at 7 Cups we do care and we as therapists' aim to get you to a better space. However of course, there has to be a professional therapeutic relationship between both client and therapist so try not to give up as if you do not feel like it's a good match then you can discuss this with 7 Cups too. Also live chat will be available very soon yay!

I am so glad you enjoy talking to the listeners here on 7 Cups who are so wonderful!! :)

I can no longer access therapy as I reached my limit. The last therapist was the one in a different state. Also, my funds are very limited. It is ok as I'm no longer interested in therapy. I have been having success with self healing methods such as mindfulness.

Mindfulness is amazing and it sounds like you've put so much work in towards reaching a healthier you too!

I'm sorry to hear this as I know it's frustrating for you as at the time you reached out you very much needed to know someone was around. billing@7cups.com is always really helpful with this sort of problem just in case in the future you ever needed therapy services again. I just didn't want you to be put off that's all so thought I'd pop you a message! Keep well! :)

Thank you for your supportive words. The 7 cups billing team is great. I actually dealt with them a few times.

Hi,

Thanks so much for this - I really appreciate your honesty! I'm sorry that you were underwhelmed though - I know how expensive therapy is so it's really not ideal.

It is unfortunate that we can't really get those 1:1 chats like you have with listeners - what were the responses like? Were they longer (like letters) ?

Given that's where your money is going I imagined and hoped they were quite long - giving you the chance to really think over your responses and them a chance to help you.

I'm glad though that you're finding mindfulness helpful smiley

Most of the therapists were fine with long responses. I prefer a more listener type experience with live chat, something that won't happen if the therapist isn't in your state.

Mindfulness is one of the best things that ever happened to me.
