The Race of Life

amiablePeace77 December 1st, 2021

A young reporter was asked to interview a 102 old man about his secret of reaching such old age.

“You see young man, I’m still running, but I run at my speed, not at others speed. The people I grew up with started at the same time. They started fast and kept going fast all the time, never taking a moment to smell the roses, to watch a sunset or a bird building its nest. They won trophies but that did not make them happy so they ran faster and faster until they could not run anymore. They spend all their energy on reaching their goals but never realized that the true goal was staying in the race not winning it.

How do you relate to this story?

@amiablePeace77 this reminds me of the phrase stop and smell the roses.

It is also a different attitude to live in this moment instead of running away from the past or rushing off to reach some place in the future.

The only place I have ever been happy was right here, right now in this moment.

@soulsings

What you said reminds me of "What we are looking for is already here, we just need to become aware of it"

@AmirablePeace77

This story reminds me of a Bible verse that states "The race is not given to the swift but rather to the strong".

We can run but if we don't pace the run we will deplete our energy and never make it to the finished line. Or the Turtle and the Hare is a good example.

@scarletPear1945 I always think I have been a hare but I never give up. That is how I have made progress by determination and fortitude.

@scarletPear1945

I agree, we need to pace the run so we're able to run longer and reach the finish line.

I believe that we all can relate to the story cuz we are so busy with our lives, work, education, etc. It's wouldn't be wrong to say that we don't even blink before moving on to the next task. In such a case, this story is a gentle reminder that we must enjoy our journey of life and not forget ourselves in the whole process! @amiablePeace77

@lyricalAngel70 I agree that we all can get very busy.

I try to stop for 5-10 seconds and take a breath before starting a new activity.
