@Rooney2112 Different types of therapy are thought to work in different ways, if the therapist is any good. Bad therapists just hand out lifestyle tips and coping strategies.

There's a list of therapy types here: Types of Therapy (Although I notice Cognitive Therapy isn't included—probably some other types are not included.)

@Rooney2112 thanks for your question. I think in many ways therapy is a personal choice. Some people benefit immensely from talking things out. Here are some indications you might find helpful.

How can therapy help me?

Therapy can be incredibly beneficial. It can help you to learn new coping skills, to better connect with your relationships, and to increase your personal growth opening you up to new opportunities. It can help you to find new ways of thinking which will change your behaviour and likely the outcomes that happen in your life.

The list is endless and when you approach therapy with an open-mind it can really be a transformative experience.

How do I know if I need therapy? Another place to look is the response of Lisa, counselor and clinical director of 7cups online therapy found here https://www.7cups.com/forum/7CupsOnlineTherapy_157/FAQfrequentlyaskedquestionsabout7cupsOnlineTherapy_2181/Whatdoestherapistactuallydo_243630/

Therapy is something that is very personal and you really are the best expert at knowing how you feel. Although, there are some markers that might suggest therapy might be beneficial and they may include:

Struggling to function at work and/or school

Sleep issues

Issues with your relationships

Feeling like you are struggling with your emotions that they are impacting areas in your life
