From Stress to Strength

amiablePeace77 October 23rd

What is stress?

Stress generally refers to two things: the psychological perception of pressure, on the one hand, and the body's response to it, on the other, which involves multiple systems, from metabolism to muscles to memory.

What is resilience?

Psychologists define resilience as the process of adapting well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy, threats, or significant sources of stress—such as family and relationship problems, serious health problems, or workplace and financial stressors.

Seeking Help

Mental stress can cause us not to be able to see the good things in life and lead to excessive rumination or worries which can result in serious health problems. If you have serious, long-term problems with negative thinking and feeling depressed, see your doctor or talk to a therapist if they are related to any mental challenges.

@alysianna

I can't even imagine what you've been through losing the most important people in your life and especially in a short period of time. My heart goes out to you 💙

If you could let them both know what you're thankful for to them what would it be? It's okay if you prefer not to answer.

It's draining to deal with stress on a constant basis. I hope the support and resources here will help you to find comfort and also find ways to reduce the stress in future.

How do you define stress and resilience for yourself?

The same way they were defined in the original post bc that was such a great and accurate way to define stress and resilience.

What’s the most stressful situation you’ve faced, and how did it impact you?

Not being accepted the way I was by most family members as well as most of the people in the grade schools I went to at the same time which isolated me keeping me day and night in my bedroom only being out of that room just to go to school while I was growing up

What did you learn from this to help you move forward?

To avoid/distance/stay away from them as much as I can 😂😂😂😂😂😂

What’s the most stressful situation you’ve faced, and how did it impact you? What did you learn from this to help you move forward?

Experiencing repeated action of being blocked, ignored and hung up on by someone that I was close to for 8 years and whom always came back tricking me into thinking they were actually sorry and loved me.

it impacted me negatively mentally and emotionally. I've struggled with certain emotional and mental issues that have been taken me years to overcome.

I learned that if you find yourself in a situation like this and the person tries to say they want another chance, be a bit harsh in your no and reasons because they need to understand the level of pain and torment they gave you without any genuine remorse or actual change in behavior.

By being harsh and clear you are setting a boundary that says I have enough self worth to walk away from this abuse. You don't have the rights to treat me like this anymore.

People who do these things need to have their actions and how it affects another person brought to their attention and then letting them face their own demon by themselves. And it's up to them to decide if they want to change or continue the unhealthy cycle to some other innocent person.

Sorry to hear about what you went through! You're quite right in setting boundaries so it will hopefully never happen again.
