Sobriety

versatileTiger7134 March 27th, 2021

So my drug of choice is opiates and meth but ive been sober for 6 month. Should my brain be healing by now? I feel like im brain dead. I cant remember anything, my thinking is so slow people at work must think theres something wrong with me, When i talk to people i feel like they think I’m a dick because i don’t have a lot of emotion when i talk. Its like i don’t know how to interact with people anymore. Its like im stoned or something all the time without the good parts. This is a huge reason i relapse.

@versatileTiger7134 Hey Tiger, congrats on your sobriety! To be honest, it is really difficult to answer that question as recovery varies from case to case. If you haven't already, I would suggest you see a doctor regarding your concerns. If you ever need to talk to someone, the listeners are always here for you.

Best wishes, and have a great week ahead! I hope you feel better. :)

I too am addicted to meth and I struggle with feeling numb to most things especially when I'm using. I think it takes a long time to recover from using meth. I havent even started as I use every three days and for two to three days in a row. I love being sober but after day three I go back to using bc I get very anxious

But good for you having 6 months

Admitting you're addicted is bold of you! I use to be really bad off on meth, but would normally control myself without getting spaced out. I remember the feeling of guilt when I used it and the numb feeling as well. Its like frying your brain, it's really unhealthy and the damage to ourselves is enough for us to want to stop, and when we do its an ultimate choice of our own. I honestly love being sober much more than being high. Good luck!

Hi Tiger It just really depends on how long you’ve been using in order for the brain to heal. But addiction operates differently in people. Your six months is the beginning stages of recovery, which i call the, “Fighting Stage” where you are still fighting those urges to use. Yes..... you are gonna feel a lil dysfunctional because you were always high while at work, or during other activities of your life. This is common in addicts that are freshly in recovery. However; it’s not that you can’t think quick. Your brain was trained while in your addiction to function in the addiction, not as a sober individual. Now as you are in recovery; you need to retrain your brain to function while sober. It’s ok to feel slower, or even like an idiot, in which you’re not. But in order to stay sober you need to go though the transition of psychological change, which is the hard part of your sobriety. This stage is what determines whether your gonna be consistent in your recovery. Also you may fall down many times before you build the mental stability to stay sober. So I’m not at all implying you can do it the few trials. It’a a lifelong struggle to stay sober, just like a cancer victim. I hope that helps you... Peace -Lotus

@versatileTiger7134

hey! i wanted to congragulate you on your sobriety!

i am so proud of you, getting sober isnt easy and you deffiently deserve to have your hard work noticed so i wanted to make sure i let you know! i am also an addict in recovery!

i agree it would probably be a good idea to check with a doctor who specializes in addiction.

we heal at our own pace some quicker than others there are alot of different factors as well that i think a doctor would be best to explain !

again congrats
