Sober and Struggling to Stay Sober

CrimsonJae July 7th, 2022

I’ve been sober for going on a year July 18th. Started drinking at a young age quit drinking a few months before I turned 20. I’ve thought about having a drink with my other half and their family but I’m nervous about it.

Hey @CrimsonJae , thank you for reaching out! Firstly I wanted to say congratulation for almost being 1 year sober free! This is definitely something you should be proud of; I know I am proud of you. You have done amazingly well! 🥳🥳

It’s understandable that you are feeling nervous about going for a drink with your other half and their family, but the decision is totally up to you. Please remember having a drink doesn’t make you any less of a person. Do you think it would help to talk to your other half about your feelings? Maybe they could make you feel more at ease about your decision and if you wanted to, allow you to enjoy one drink while also staying without your comfortable limit.

Whatever decision you decide to take, we will be here to support you. You are so strong to have got this far, continue to be amazing. You got this! 💛💛

I’m just afraid that if I drink that I will do what I used to do.

What did you used to do? Are you doing okay today?

You might. And probably will.

Ive been there and thought oh no I’ll be fine, but it never ends well. If you’ve been sober this long - continue on your sobriety journey. It is not worth risking for a few hours of “fun” and then possible shame and regret.

I went back to drinking just after 4 years of sobriety it just took one drink and then I've been drinking for a year and a half now I've been sober for a week. Struggling all over again so let me tell you it's not worth it.
