Can you recover by drinking less?

wittyOrange6925 December 9th, 2021

Or is sober the only thing there is? I have noticed over the past couple of years a progression. I am here to handle depression and anxiety. However, I recognize that the alcohol has to be absent to be able to discern the root issues...thoughts?

@wittyOrange6925 As far as I can tell, experts disagree about whether you can recover by drinking less, and about whether alcohol must be completely absent in order to address the root causes of addiction. The nonprofit Moderation Management has some information you might find interesting.

Unfortunately no. I know for myself after I have one I can’t say no to the rest. Then I’m not drinking to fix anything but to get drunk. Just had an episode two days ago and it kinda has me shook up.

I never thought so before. I was a HARD CRUST AA guy.

But now I believe it was never the 12 steps that helped.... it was the COMMUNITY

That's why I'm here

These are "the rooms."

I'm so grateful t HG at my life is moving forward in such an incredibly positive forward motion.

I'm humbly grateful.
