Let's talk about burnout! 🧠💤

izzyy528 October 22nd

Hey everyone,

I hope you're all doing well! 😊 I wanted to start a conversation today about something I think a lot of us can relate to - student burnout 🧠💤

What is burnout? Burnout isn't just feeling tired after a long day of studying; it’s more than that. It’s when you feel emotionally, physically and mentally drained, like you’ve got nothing left to give. Suddenly, even the things you usually enjoy feel like a chore. Sound familiar? 😣

I know I’ve personally been there, especially during those crunch periods (exam season, I’m talking about you!). You might start feeling:

  • Exhausted even after resting
  • Unmotivated to do schoolwork or activities you usually enjoy
  • Like you’re constantly behind, no matter how much you do
  • Overwhelmed and anxious about deadlines or expectations

If you're experiencing any of this, you're definitely not alone 💛

So, what can we do to about burnout? This can definitely vary between individuals and what works for one person may not work for another. Here are a few things that have helped me, but I’d love to hear your tips too!

  1. Setting boundaries: It’s okay to say no sometimes. Balance is key. Carving out time for yourself, whether it's to chill, exercise, or do something fun is super helpful.

  2. Take breaks: I know it feels like we don’t have time, but taking short, regular breaks can help you recharge. The Pomodoro technique (25 minutes study, 5-minute break) can be super effective. 🍅

  3. Stay organised: It can be so much more motivating to break tasks down into manageable chunks and using a planner or an app to keep track of them. Checking off tasks feels amazing and helps you see progress!

  4. Talk about it: Sometimes, just venting to a friend or family member helps lighten the load. You can also share your experiences here - we're all here to support each other! 😊

  5. Self-care (it's not optional): Make sure you're getting enough sleep, eating properly, and doing things that make you happy. Burnout can hit harder if you're neglecting your physical and emotional needs.

I'd love to hear from you! What are your experiences with burnout? Have you found any strategies that work for you? Let’s all share tips, encourage each other, and remember that it’s okay to take a step back when we need it. 💪✨

Sending positive vibes to all the hardworking students out there! 🌟

Can't wait to hear from you all ❤️

I feel burnt out often esp this time around. I graduated last year in 3D art and couldn’t find a job in my field since it’s so tough right now. So I have been constantly practicing my skills for a year almost everyday, and I feel completely burnt out.

i think the burnt out and stress in job searching played into me being depressed and ended up finding this community here.

Hi Izzy thanks for posting.

I'm experiencing a burnout due to the fact that I have to take care of a baby sister every day and night, do chores and study, its really depressing. Having so much physical amd emotional burden.

I'm not really dealing with it, I mean, I can't set bandries, and talking about it hurts and make me have breakdowns.

Been watching a lot of dramas and staying up late a lot as a coping mechanism.

Thank you so much for sharing this with us. It sounds like you’re shouldering a lot right now, with so many responsibilities between studying, caring for your sister and handling chores. It sounds incredibly tough not having room to set boundaries, especially when talking about it feels like it might bring up even more overwhelm. Sometimes, when we’re under so much pressure, coping mechanisms like staying up late or watching dramas can feel like the only way to unwind, even if they’re not ideal long-term.

If you ever feel ready to talk more about this, we’re here to listen and support you in any way we can. Is there anything that would make things feel a little lighter, even just for today? You’re not alone in this and we’re here for you ❤️

Thanks for posting this amazingly Izzy!💖 Most of the time taking break technique really helps me during burnouts. However, Pomodoro timer never ever worked for me😂 because I take breaks whenever I feel like it and when I am satisfied with my job that I have put enough efforts. So yeah, I am little weirdo🤣

Anyway, this post is super helpful for all of us as we all deal with burnouts at some point of our life. Thanks for taking initiative to provide awareness and wonderful tips to cope😊💖

Great post!  I think it is good to talk about burnout in relation to being a student. I know when I was a student, it was easy to get really tired from all the assignments that needed to be done along with having to work at the same time. I think it is important to give yourself plenty of time to do assignments but also have a day where you just focus on you.
