Failed exam? Nope, I'm just inattentive

Anyone4wks March 15th, 2023

Hi all,

So I got my grade back last week about my midterm exam and when I looked at it I saw the grade and it was a failing grade. I basically panicked and spiraled for the rest of that evening and have been super anxious and stressed all week trying to hid how i feel since I've been to scared/embarrassed/disappointed to tell anyone.

Now today I went to a revision periode with the TA and it didn't seem like I got too many questions wrong. So after a the review session, I was feeling less anxious cuz the TA was rlly helpful. So I decided to recheck my grade...

AND GUESS WHAT! I did NOT in fact fail that exam!!!!

Here I was stressing so much about hiding my grade and thinking this was going to affect my future forever, but NOPE! I still have a chance to do really well. And although it's not a great grade (my usual marks are typically higher) I feel soooo much better and less anxious about it since I can plan my sudying to do well on the final.

This will act as my note to self to always READ THE WHOLE GRADE BEFORE PANICKING FOR A WEEK!!!!

Thanks!

P.S.- Thank you to the person who put a comment on my previous post! It was greatly appreciated and helped me gain the courage to go to the TA! 😁

That's awesome I'm glad you were able to catch that and get it fixed. Although the initial reaction may have been very discouraging you were strong enough to look through it and actually confirm the grade you got! That's a very important thing to do! Congrats on your victorious situation :)

Glad to hear your TA was very helpful. Lucky you! A lot of the times, I find that we often scare ourselves when our grades are returned to us. Even when we had confidence when writing the exam, we will often think we've done horrible on it. So, whenever we first initially get our grades back, we always imagine it to the worst. I'm glad you've taken your time to look over your exam again and realize that it wasn't a failing grade.

@Anyone4wks The feeling that you may have failed an exam or a class is scary! It is understandable that you felt the way you did initially. I can relate! Sounds like you are trusting yourself and that your hard work pays off a bit more now! What have you tried that helps with that initial feeling when you think you got a bad grade? (I too have had similar experiences where I jumped to conclusions and got stressed out about my grade and self worth. Now I have to make myself take an emotional step back, take a deep breath, then evaluate what happened and how to fix it.)
