College, work, hobbies, and family..... + anxiety

yellowGlobe1056 August 26th, 2021

I just started college last week ( my first semester out of high school - even tho I was taking college classes then too). I’m taking 16 hours and I’ve worked 30 hours per week and done 2 hours worth of martial arts classes 5 days a week last week and am currently doing it this week. I know I should take time from some of these activities/work to focus on school, but I can’t think of that rn because I’m so committed to everything.

on top of all of that I’ve been having some issues with my social confidence and my ability to get enough sleep. These two together makes for some painful days of physical anxiety symptoms. It just seems like another big thing on top of an already stressful situation.

im just not sure how to proceed with school work and balance CE and time management between all of these things...

@yellowGlobe1056, Wow. You seem to have a plateful of things to do. I wonder if you are eating well and doing something relaxing like a hobby, to help you unwind and relax. Self care is important as it helps you face all those things on your plate. Not sleeping well could zap up your energy as your body is not getting ample rest. Have you tried writing or listing down all the activities you are doing.? Sometimes , when you have written/listed things down ,black and white, it helps you to see how much time you are giving for each activity and most importantly, your self care. A simple walk or practise singing some songs you like , tho may not be profitable but is a great invesment for your self care(emotionaly n mentally). I still love walking in the park , just enjoying the fresh air , plants,....just for 20 minutes 3 times a week. Helps to refresh my mind .

Good for you, for not giving up your hobbies and work, while you've entered into your first semester at college. Aside from studies, with work and martial arts, it is important that you are not overdoing it. Eating well (to have enough energy for each activity), and getting enough rest (physically and mentally) is crucial too.

Starting college is already stressful and creates a lot of anxiety for students who are first transitioning into College from High School. Sometimes, they just need to get used to the pace and environment. It has only been a week, give yourself time to adjust, and if it gets difficult to balance everything, you can consider working lesser hours or take one less course.

It seems like all your hours are set, so in regards to time management, it would be for self-care in between each activity~
