Asking for advice in Choosing University major
I would like ask for advices on deciding university major. I am a little lost in choosing for my university major cuz I still don't have a particular interest or passion yet now. In choosing major and career pathway, I feel really diffcult to decide. I couldn't decide one and I am not confident about myself about what I will choose. I am worried that I might regret choosing that or found later that I maybe no talent in that area or I might feel no interest in the chosen major later. For me, I am considering for applying a scholarship to study abroad. So, I need to decide one major now but since choosing major may also impact my future career, I feel so hard to decide. Could you give me some suggestions ?
Thank you very much.

I'll tell you what I did:
1. Make a list of the MAJOR fields that you might be interested in - Medical, business, creative arts, law, etc.
2. Cross out the ones you have no interest in
3. Cross out ones that you have interest in but would not want to do a uni degree in (it is more of a hobby than a career)
4. Now you must have only a few options left. From here, you have to pick one. Think about what criteria matters most to you. (For example - between medical and english literature, I picked medical because english lit. seemed a little risky and my priority was stability and also to do something fulfilling)
5. Finally you should have ONE MAJOR FIELD. now there are sub-fields. This you have to choose purely out of interest.
This is just a glimpse of what I did ^ I hope it helps though.
I had also done multiple personality and career tests online to help me make my decision.
Another tip is to focus on the cons of each field and decide which con seems least horrible.
Also I believe you can double major. If you like two different things equally in the end.
Thank you very much for sharing your valuable experiences and kind advices. I will try it❣️
@GreenTea3040 you're welcome!! i hope it helps :)

I would suggest maybe going to local universities and seeing if they have any open-houses or anything - especially if you could talk with some students to ask about the coursework and what you would be doing in those types of classes. Do that for several of the majors you're interested in.

I am sure it has not been easy trying to decide what major to study! My main recommendation would be for you to choose your top 3 favorite disciplines and make a pro and con list for each one. I have found that making these kinds of lists are extremely helpful in making big decisions! You could write down some of the skills required, career opportunities, and main areas of focus for each subject, and decide if those would fall as a pro or con for you. Hopefully this helps a little!
@GreenTea3040 Here's some advice that helped me
- visit local unis, attend informative sessions, career fairs, talk to people, try to find people from various majors to talk to
- for that you could even use linkedin, I did that to get some advice on my masters
- make a list of areas that interest you (health, engineering, economics, sciences, languages, history, politics, etc) and see majors that combine them. Think about subjects you enjoyed in high school or any extracurricular activities you found interesting
- think about something that goes along with your personality (strengths, weaknesses, interests, values, what would make you happy). If you have multiple interests, explore the possibility of a double major or a minor
- don't always listen to parents/family/teachers/society in general. Most of the times they have no idea of which majors actually guarantee jobs. It's better imo to talk to counselors
- t's okay not to have everything figured out immediately. Many students change majors during their academic journey. Take your time, explore your options, and make a decision that aligns with your interests and aspirations
One thing to always keep in mind is that you are always going to end up where you need to be, and doing what you need to do. There is no shame in later not liking what you initially choose. It can be hard to choose "your future" but the path of your future changes everyday with the decisions we make. Overall just know whatever you do choose is the right decision!
@GreenTea3040 listen, u need to calm down first and think in which subjects you can do better. It it science subject, computer subjects or art subjects. If u don't want tough one then you can go for English literature or something from art subjects.
