Remembering roots

Moonwolf9710 May 6th, 2023

Hello everyone,

Myself Moonwolf9710 and I am concerned about the present situtaion of 7 cups. Whenever I turn upto general chats section to look out who need help. I mostly find s exual health tags. Some of which are true. But mostly are just fake came for s ex chat and timepass. I sugest all listeners please do not entertain such chats. Directly block them. Afterall we have purpose to fulfill.

My regards, to all of you.

@Moonwolf9710 Yeah would be nice to have a filter for those. To not waste any listener's time who are sincerely here for people in distress. I can somewhat understand the challenge though: 7Cups has to cater to the needs of the members first and listeners second, because otherwise inappropriate listeners would be preying upon innocent members. Which would be much, much worse. Although still undesirable, it is much easier to have inappropriate members instead.

It was recommended that 7Cups implement a community-based system to solve problems like these. I'm confident that if the community put its head together, a solution could come out of this. Probably would help retain more new listeners too.

Hey there. I definitely understand your concern and I (and others on the Safety Patrol Team) have been seeing them and trying to deal with them appropriately.

The best thing someone can do in these situations is take a screenshot of the General Request line (specifically where the member and their topic is) and report it .

It is best not to take these chats just to block the user themselves.

If you do ever see any inappropriate username or topic request in the General Request line, you can also come into The Listener Support Room and ask if anyone from the Safety Patrol Team is available (theres usually at least one person in there)

I hope this helps a little and maybe gives you a few pointers as to how to deal with these types of situations

@Moonwolf9710 Can yu define timepass? It's not a term I hear used much.

I think what we need to do is focus on it from the listener side. Members deal with listeners trying to *** as well. If members who come here for *** didn't connect with listeners who gave them what they are looking for and just reiterated boundaries/blocked as needed the members trying to *** would likely get bored and go elsewhere.

@AffyAvo mmhmm makes sense.....that's what I was saying that don't entertain such chats. Timepass in the sense they don't have any problem they just come for casual chats, for validating their unnecessary thoughts or in sense of implying their thoughts on others. They are just ready to give their thoughts on any random topic.

@Moonwolf9710 Thanks! Beck has given great suggestions for how to handle things here. I don't see a problem with timepass as you described it as long as it's appropriate. Sometimes members need some company, sometimes they aren't ready to open up, that's ok. It's also ok if a listener isn't interested in those chats. The inappropriate chats are a separate thing (even if derived from boredom). Beck has some great things listeners can do. I wonder how we can better weed out the listeners who bother to go through the training and do this. I think cutting off one side would drastically reduce the other and considering the nature of the site, cutting it off on the listener side seems easier without reducing the freedom members have to openly share their issues.
